Licensed Psychologist

Welcome! My name is Dr. Andrew Fields. I offer psychological services to adults and older adolescents in the greater Denver area. In addition to individual and couples therapy, I offer psychological testing services for most concerns for adults, adolescents, and children of school age and up.

A good therapeutic relationship is the strongest predictor of success in therapy. I would like to hear from you to discuss working together. Please scroll down for more information on services and how to contact me.

About Dr. Fields

I am a licensed psychologist who has served the greater Denver area since 2004. I earned my Bachelor's of Science degree in Psychology from Iowa State University, and my Master's of Science degree in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Miami. I completed my pre-doctoral internship at the University Counseling Service at the University of Iowa, and earned my Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Denver.

I have worked in a variety of mental health settings, including university counseling centers, outpatient community mental health clinics, inpatient psychiatric hospitals, and inpatient residential treatment centers. In addition to individual therapy I have trained in cognitive and neuropsychological assessment, which I have used to assess Learning Disabilities and ADHD. I currently see clients in an outpatient private practice located in the Denver Tech Center. I specialize in relationship problems, depression, anxiety, and treatment of posttraumatic stress disorder in those who have experienced a traumatic event in their lives.

In addition to my therapy work, I have published research on men's depression, depression assessment and treatment, and therapy with multicultural clients. My research interests include identifying unique features of depression in men (and women), assessment and treatment of depression, and how our gender roles in society affect our mental health.

Since 2010 my private practice has provided therapy and testing services. In 2017, I decided to open Denver's first dedicated clinic for diagnosis and treatment of ADHD. I have seen far too many individuals face the impact of this disorder and struggle to find answers, to find treatment, and to thrive in their lives because of the tremendous impact it has on them. ADHD is generally very misunderstood in the general public, and worse, misunderstood by many healthcare and mental health professionals. The founding of this clinic is my dedication to helping those with ADHD get the answers and support they need to be the best version of themselves and not let the disorder block them from their potential.

Couples

Many approaches to couples therapy focus too much on communication at the expense of learning to connect effectively as a couple. Generally, conflict arises because our needs are not being met. My approach to couple's therapy is to emphasize how to build the trust that allows us to be vulnerable. This is the most difficult thing on earth, but we need to learn this in order to get our needs met from others.

Individuals

Typically, the rule of thumb is this: If the difficulties you are having interfere with your ability to live your life the way you want to, get some help!  Most psychological difficulties are very treatable, and most people find their life is improved significantly from seeking help.  I can help you find ways out of your suffering and step back into your life to be the person you want to be!
